Friday the 13th Is Not A Bad Day After All

Today is Friday the 13th. Bad day?

Friday the 13th has been considered as bad luck according to superstitious beliefs. I checked out the Wikipedia to know more about this myth. It is interesting to note that the fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia. Well, if this is the word asked from you to spell in a spelling exam, then probably this is indeed "bad luck" for you. It was believed that this superstitious belief was passed on to generations through oral traditions, and some religion adapted the superstition in the notion that Jesus died on Friday and the number of people who were in the last Supper was 13.

I dispute this theory. First of all, we were reminded by God in His words that we ought not to follow the traditions of men. Secondly, the day Jesus died is never a bad luck but the day of redemption and salvation. It is the day of all blessings.

There is no such thing as bad luck or good luck. The day becomes what it is according to our expectation and perception. If we think and believe that this day is bad day, then for sure this day will be a bad day. But if we believe that this day is a good day, then today is a good day. God has blessed us everyday with new favor, new life and new blessings. He promised, "They are new every morning, great is His faithfulness," and "this is the day that the Lord has made, we will be glad in it." How then a day can be a bad day? Well, it is in your perception. In the Last Supper, the day was a bad day only for Judas who betrayed the Lord and for the disciples who left Jesus afterwards. But in the viewpoint of man's redemption, this is the grandest day of all days.

Friday the 13th as a bad day? Let us see.
I went out today with my wife to spread the love of God by visiting the poor, the needy and the weak. Before we went out, we had a lovely morning with coffee and nice sharing of our meditations. We declared goodness and blessings not just for us but for others.

We visited the needy people for the day. We went to the narrow streets and visited them in their shanty houses. We gave what we can to them but above all the love and inspiration that is coming from God. As we pass by to some brethren's houses, we were invited to their houses for refreshments. The love of God was passed to others. What a nice day! And as we pass a corner near our subdivision, we saw an ongoing fight among young people in the street, I have intervened and broke the fight, and as a result, saved them from their "bad days.". It was a very fulfilling day.

After the day's work of love, a couple invited us to dinner. We have a nice fellowship sharing how God was so faithful in our lives. After the dinner, to our surprise, the couple was not contented to just give us a treat, but has shopped us with groceries! We went home so overwhelmed and thankful with the blessings of God in our lives. I am so blessed today!

Friday the 13th is never a bad day after all.
"There is no such thing as a bad day, only a bad disposition."
